Expedition donated time to provide structural design for this project in collaboration with Bartlett School of Architecture second year student Rachael Taylor.

Global Generation acquired temporary use of a community allotment within Argent‘s regeneration site at King’s Cross for the Skip Garden kitchen.

Made from recycled scaffolding boards and sash windows the Glass Lantern is inspired by the function of the site.  The design will allow for community gardening after work by illuminating the area at night.

See footage of the Lantern, and Rachael being interviewed, on the BBC News website.

A unique and challenging project, Expedition have delivered a structure built for purpose, using low impact sand based foundations, common off the shelf materials for ease of constructability by volunteers and a unique curtain wall façade where the reclaimed sash windows are bolted back to the primary frame in a free unplanned manner. The Lantern, come twilight, enlightens the space, bringing the community together.
