Yesterday we had the opportunity to enjoy some gorgeous sunshine at the informal launch event of the Wembley Park Sound Shell on Olympic Way.

The Sound Shell is a new public stage designed to create an acoustic experience, especially for emerging artists. It was designed for Quintain Limited by architects FLANAGAN LAWRENCE, events specialists ES Global Ltd and Arup Acoustics.

Working with the team, Expedition Engineering Ltd optimised the design of the demountable timber canopy shell structure, which now incorporates both stretched or inflatable membrane cover, and has been optimised for structural efficiency and for quick and safe delivery across the globe.

To celebrate the launch, a line-up of London’s top emerging musical talent from across the city performed on the new stage as part of the grassroots BBC Introducing music platform.

Jess Iszatt, presenter of BBC Music Introducing LIVE in London, said: ‘It’s fantastic that live music is back after such a long time without it during the pandemic. We’re excited to be able to programme a full day of music in such an iconic music destination as Wembley Park”.

A schedule of free performances will take place every Thursday to Saturday until the end of September 2022.
