The visitor centre – an 8,000 square foot temporary space – acts as a gateway to the new development providing information on the masterplan and houses the show flats. In line with the masterplan, the building is highly sustainable and part of this is achieved through the extensive use of #timber in its construction.
The structural frame is constructed from cross laminated timber (CLT) and glulam columns and beams. The main exhibition space is housed in a double height space with a long span timber structure spanning over. The timber structure is typically exposed therefore requiring attention to detailing of the connections and framing arrangement. We worked in close collaboration with the specialist timber contractor from the outset to ensure an economic and high quality design was achieved.
