Expedition Engineering worked since 2013 with Hugh Broughton Architects and The Institution of Structural Engineers on the refurbishment of a 1960’s steel frame building to form the new headquarter building, on Bastwick Street, near the Barbican in central London.

The project includes the refurbishment of the four storey building into high-quality offices, meeting spaces, library, reading room and an auditorium.

The centrepiece of the redevelopment is a new double-height entrance area with an exposed concrete feature wall supporting a finely detailed horizontal cantilever staircase in pre-cast concrete and steel, and a complimentary bridge at first floor leading to the library.

For more information, please see bdonline and IStructE, which have articles relating to the building and more information on the engineering challenges.

The new IStructE HQ opened its doors to members on January 5th, 2015. Watch the launch video here.
