Expedition teamed up with the sister companies of the Useful Simple Trust to design and build a new tensegrity sculpture for the beautiful, National Trust-owned, Anglesey Abbey Gardens in Cambridgeshire.

From early on in the design process the aspiration was to develop a structure that is engaging. We were particularly drawn by the river and the old Lode Mill waterwheel which we wanted to reflect in our design, leading to a sculptural interpretation of a waterwheel. A series of design and prototyping workshops were undertaken exploring the design opportunities for the new art piece.

The Bamboo Tensegrity Wheel was built in September 2015 and can now be viewed at a beautiful and peaceful location, under a tree, downstream from the Lode Mill.
