Expedition worked with Useful Studio, our sister architectural practice in the Useful Simple Trust, on the structural and civil engineering for the expansion of Isleworth and Syon School. We worked on the project from inception to the end of RIBA Stage 3; and as testament to the lean and efficient design, the completed building was largely unchanged from our tender information.

The new building is a two storey steel framed structure, with exposed precast concrete floor slabs creating large open classroom spaces. This is closely connected via an external link bridge to the main school building, in which a number of old classrooms were opened out into new teaching spaces.

The close collaboration with the design team, in particular Useful Studio, led to a well-coordinated building with a robust and cost-efficient structure, while retaining elegance and clarity in the exposed elements.
