Millbrook Park – Phase 5 is one phase of a large-scale redevelopment project located in Mill Hill, North London. Phase 5 consists of 33 townhouses and 111 apartments over a basement car park. It is one of the later phases to be developed and had been used as a spoil dump by the earlier neighbouring plots. This has resulted in a complicated steep site with an 8m level difference between opposing corners. Substantial advanced infrastructure works are required to ready the site for development.

Expedition has provided both the structural and civil engineering design and have been involved in the planning and sequencing of the advanced infrastructure works.

The structural design has focused on creating a simple, efficient and buildable solution. By integrating the design of the lateral stability system, retaining walls and vertical structure we were able to reduce the size of elements and simplify construction details. The car park, columns and apartments have been cleverly co-ordinated to reduce the need for transfer structures. This resulted in slab spans of around 8m requiring Expedition to complete a detailed long-term post construction deflection analysis to justify a minimal depth slab to ensure generous ceiling heights.

The surface water drainage design has been established in accordance with the development wide strategy to restrict runoff rates. In ground attenuation structures and podium attenuation systems have been utilised to provide the required level of surface water storage.
